This Prayer Contains All The Types Of Prayer
Do you know the Lord’s Prayer or the Our Father Prayer, is it one of the main types of prayer in the Bible?
Or is it a model of a prayer that contains all the main types of prayers found in the Bible?
Continue reading as I discuss this and utilize biblical information to answer all these questions.
The Our Father Prayer
This prayer, or format, is so popular that it appears not only in the Bible and churches worldwide but in many movies.
Have you seen “The Scorpion King“? In it, one of the actors repeated the Lord’s Prayer to ward off a reincarnated being.
But I’m not here to talk about movies but the types of prayers in the Bible.
Using the Our Father Prayer Format, Jesus taught his apostles (leaders) how to pray.
This is it!
He instructed them,
The Lord’s Prayer
“After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, [forever]. Amen” (Matthew 6:9-13; Luke 11:1-4).
Are There Types of Prayer in The Bible?
Most people, Christians and unsaved, know of or have had some experience with the following four main types of prayers found in the Bible.
These include supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks. 1 Timothy 2:1.
If you have never heard of them, or want to know more about them, click the links above.
How Many Types of Prayers Are in The Bible?
If you are ignorant of this one thing, you could ignorantly identify infinite types of prayer in the Bible.
Did you know that all the main types or kinds of prayers are already in the Our Father Prayer?
Prayer of Adoration
They say, “A prayer of adoration is a prayer that praises God’s goodness and majesty.”
They also say an example of this would be Psalm 111.
But what they didn’t say, because they didn’t know this, is the first line of the “Lord’s Prayer” constitutes a Prayer of Adoration.
It reads: “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”
When Jesus was teaching his leaders to pray, he never told them to repeat his prayer verbatim.
Instead, he instructed them, “After this manner therefore pray ye.”
This means that they should use his prayer as a Master Blueprint for all their prayers.
The Main Types of Prayer
Use it as a format to pray.
At this point of the prayer, you should spend some time praising and worshiping not his “goodness and majesty”, but the name of the Lord, namely, Jesus Christ!
Every prayer that we pray, to the Lord God, should begin with adoration and praise for his great name.

Prayer of Confession
Similarly, if we use Jesus’ prayer format, every time we pray to the Lord God, in heaven, then we would make a prayer of confession.
This is not even the correct vocabulary to use. There is no prayer of confession.
Nobody, not in the Bible, the early church, and not in contemporary life, spends an entire prayer confessing.
However, similar to the prayer of adoration, if you follow Jesus’ instruction and use his prayer as a blueprint, then, “forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” becomes a prayer of confession.
At this juncture, you could name names as you confess before God.
Don’t Makeup Types Of Prayer!
We see the significance of making vows in prayers when Hannah prayed. She didn’t pray a prayer of vows. Don’t makeup types of prayers.
Instead, she made a single vow, in her prayer of supplication, to God for her son, Samuel.
When you comprehend how the Lord sees them, then, you would understand her impetus to use one and why it worked!
What Determines the Type of Prayer That We Use?
How does a person know which type of prayer to use in what situation? Is there a method or procedure to know what types of prayer to make in any given situation?
Conclusion
Prayer is any emission from our hearts, silent or audible, to the Lord God. Also remember, we could pray about anything.
Many say that prayer is a conversation with the Lord. But, I beg to differ. Conversation implies two-way communication.
When I pray, I’m the only one talking. I’m not saying, He doesn’t answer but not then.
In ancient days, prayers for Abraham and the others were actual conversations.
But not today.
There are numerous situations we could pray about. Maybe each could be a type of prayer.
But all the prayers we could ever pray would fall into one of the main types of prayers noted in this Bible study.
