Questions About The Armour of God
What exactly is the armor of God; is it available to everyone; how to acquire it, how should Christians use it; and why do we need it?
These are some of the questions that I shall answer in this Bible study.
To answer this adequately and effectively, I will explain the general nature of the armor, then extend its diction to the armor of God.
What Is The Armor Of God?
Armor is usually metal covering a soldier wears during combat for protection.
It doesn’t have to be metal for it could be constructed from other durable materials.
For instance, some warriors use leather as armor for different parts of the body.
Nevertheless, metal was the most popular material used in the construction of the armory.
It could be a complete armor or partial. The complete one covers and protects the entire body.
But the partial one covers designated areas of the body.
Are We Really Christian Soldiers?
For example, a soldier could wear pieces of armor for the head and chest only.
Consequently, the Christian soldier wears the complete spiritual armour of God for defense and protection.
Apostle Paul makes it clear that young Pastor Timothy as well as us, are indeed Christian soldiers.
Christ has chosen us to be soldiers here on earth.
Listen as he explains this to him.
“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ,” 2 Timothy 2:3.
And again,
“No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier,” 2 Timothy 2:4.
What Are The Pieces of the Whole Armor of God?
The 7 Pieces of The Armor of God?
There are six pieces in the whole armour of God. I wonder where others got the seventh piece from?
I list them below:
- Belt
- Breastplate
- Boots
- Shield
- Helmet
- Sword
We know the pieces that comprise the whole armor of God because the Scripture supplies them!
We could only identify it, as a whole, only in Ephesians 6:10-17.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might,” Ephesians 6:10.
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil,” Ephesians 6:11.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places,” Ephesians 6:12.
“Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand,” Ephesians 6:13.
“And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace,” Ephesians 6:15.
“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked,” Ephesians 6:16.
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” Ephesians 6:17.
Is The Armor Of God Available To Everyone?
Seeing that the Armour of God is in “The Epistle of Paul The Apostle To The Ephesians” brethren, then it’s for Christians only.
Additionally, it is a spiritual weapon that no natural person could use.
Thus, it’s available to everyone because we could all see and read about it.
Our adversary is a spiritual being and his warfare is also of such! Thus, if we are carnal and unspiritual, then we have lost that battle before we started it!
How To Acquire It?
So, to utilize it we must be spiritual or Christian.
No person who is not born-again could “take” and “put on” and effectively utilize the whole armor of God, Ephesians 6:11 & 13.
Such a person has no access to it! These are all spiritual actions.
Why Do We Need The Armor of God?
Our adversary, the Devil, is very smart.
The Bible says of him
“Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee” Ezekiel 28:3.
Here is another reference speaking of his cleverness.
“Now the serpent was more [subtle] than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” Genesis 3:1.
Satan is very clever. But Jesus Christ knows all things!
Therefore, we are not up against an ordinary opponent. We battle with a clever one.
When we “put on” the “whole armour” of God, we are not utilizing our own cleverness and intellect, but the omnipotent power of Jesus Christ.
Doing this ensures our success. As a result, the Bible says this guarantees that we don’t fall but “stand”.
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil,” Ephesians 6:11.
In battle, when a soldier falls, he is vulnerable to the enemy for his defense is shattered.
On the other hand, when he is standing, he is able to adequately defend against any attack and ward off offenses.
Conclusion
The armor of God is a necessary spiritual tool for Christian Soldiers. We must be born-again to “take it”.
A person who is not spiritual doesn’t know how to do this. Similarly, we must be born-again to “put on the whole armor of God”.
The carnal man cannot attain this.
We need the complete armor for full protection in battle.
Mainly because the whole armor of God is both defensive and offensive.
Our main adversary is not a human. Therefore, we can’t contend with him in a natural setting but on a spiritual front.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places,” Ephesians 6:12.
In closing, don’t be afraid. We have victory in Christ. He has defeated him already.
Therefore, stand in the power that’s in the name of Jesus Christ!
