I hope Sinners and Saints will use and share these repentance resources. They are for everyone.
The Doctrine of Repentance has been a fundamental discipline of Christianity for more than two thousand years.
The preaching of it started with the Forerunner of Jesus Christ: John the Baptist. Then Christ himself preached it. Later, the Twelve Leaders of Christ and the First Century Church as a whole continued the preaching of repentance.
Today, in our time and in this pertinent repentance resources, we are shining the spotlight on what it means to repent; who repents; how to repent; and why according to the Bible.
Repentance a Question of Definition
As long as Christians continue to define repentance and the meaning of repent via their points of views and religious bias there will be problems. This approach will produce problems for them and others they lead or teach. Confusion will continue to reign and people will continue to live as they choose with no regard for the Lord God and His Word. Nevertheless, if we allow the scriptures to explicate themselves (if you know how to affect that) the problem will disappear. Let the Bible define repent for you.
Is repentance a good or bad thing? If it’s good for you, why run away from it? You can’t run forever. Time is the master of all- things-human and it catches up to all. Repent today and turn to and serve the Master of Time: Jesus Christ.
Is repentance right or wrong? If you think it’s right, do it. But if you think it’s wrong and your assumptions are wrong, what next?
Repentance is good; it’s right and it’s fair. The Word of God teaches that these things are so. Accept it and prepare your heart for Christ.
Repentance Resources – What Cause Repentance?
Just as many will differ in their opinions of the meaning of repent and repentance, there is a very wide divide concerning the causes of repentance.
So, let me put the ball in your court: What do you imagine are the causes of repentance?
Repentance Resources – What Should We Do About Repentance?
Now that you have learned that repentance is the first prerequisite for everyone to approach the Lord God. What are you going to do about it?
You will recall too that repentance is for everyone sinners or saints. We all must repent. It’s not an option.
There must be something in your life that you have been stubborn about not resolving. You have been heard-hearted about it, but the Lord Jesus Christ wants you to release it. Set it free. That’s what repentance does.
It could be a damaged relationship with a friend, relative, mentor, or spouse. Set it right today. Find or contact that person and make it right today.
“Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.” (Matthew 5:24).
So today, decide that you will do it and just go ahead and talk to the Lord about it. Sometimes, you may need to speak with a friend or relative. But it’s worth it.
Could We Accomplish Repentance On Our Own?
It’s OK to have an opinion. Everybody has one. However, nobody wants to hold a perspective that amounts to disobedience to the Word of God. At least, not Christians.
If your point of view is not parallel to the Bible on repentance relinquish it. Then accept this Word of God. And the only proof that you do is your obedience to God’s Word.
Even though I have implored you to repent it’s not autonomous nor can you accomplish it on your own.
Our repentance comes from the Lord God. He motivates us to seek repentance through our obedience to His Word.
How to Accomplish Repentance
Apostle Paul teaches:”Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing” (2 Corinthians 7:9). “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death” (2 Corinthians 7:10).
I want to encourage you to use these repentance resources wisely. Where many Believers diverge from the Word of God is in their interpretations of it.
However, the two Scriptures quotations immediately above did not inform us that “godly sorrow” is repentance. Instead, they tell us that it “worketh” or “works” or “motivates” repentance.
You don’t need to interpret the Scriptures. Let them explain themselves and they will.
“Godly sorrow” comes when the Preacher preaches the Word of God and exposes our sins. And invariably he uses the word “Repent”.
The Supreme Cause of Repentance
It is this call to repent via the Word of God that prompts and executes repentance in us.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any [two-edged] sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
No repentant person is immune to the power of the Word of God. None can prevent the “piercing” and the “dividing” of the “thoughts and intents of the heart”.
It’s for this reason repentance doesn’t mean “sorry” or “godly sorrow” or even a change of mind. Repentance is of the heart.
Consequently, all who repent are subjected to its power. And everyone needs to hear or receive the Word of God to repent. This is the supreme cause of repentance; the workings of the Word of God. Repent!!
