Why Is Satan Sometimes Called Lucifer?
Today, I shall address a few questions surrounding why Lucifer is the Son of the Morning and why both Satan and Jesus are referred to as the Morning Star?
The Bible never calls Satan, Lucifer. And Lucifer is not Satan! Lucifer is a different being from Satan.
The Bible says:
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning[;] how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations[?]” Isaiah 14:12.
This is the only explicit biblical mention of the Son of The Morning, mainly Lucifer!
But this verse describes the fall of Lucifer. He fell from being the Chief Musician in heaven to a deceiving snake.
But what was he like before his fall?
In The Bible Who Is Lucifer Son Of The Morning?
He was a very beautiful and wise cherub created by the Lord God. The Lord God created Lucifer. The Bible uses the figure of speech, Son of the Morning, to describe him because of his brightness.
In other words, the Bible is saying that Lucifer was so bright that the morning could have given birth to him.
However, this is nothing more than the language of the Bible. This language is similar in concept to Born of Water and Born of Spirit!
It’s a simple comparison between the brightness of Lucifer and the brightness of the morning.
Why Was Lucifer – The Son of The Morning?
Because his covering consisted of all the valuable and precious stones. They made him shine very brightly.
“Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.”
Ezekiel 28:13
For this reason, the Bible calls him the Son of the Morning!
So, he was Lucifer because he shines so bright!
Note that Lucifer was in the Garden of Eden. When? After his expulsion from heaven.
More on this later, in this short Bible Study.
Therefore, he was radiant and expensive. Can you imagine all those “precious stone[s]” on his wings? When he moved that was a beautiful sight. He was also very beautiful even when he was motionless!
How Did The Son of The Morning Becomes Satan?
The Lord made Lucifer a perfect and upright cherub without sin.
“Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee”
Ezekiel 28:13, 15
But, he corrupted himself for iniquity, not sin, nor transgression, nor abomination was found in him, but iniquity. Isaiah 14:13-15.
Now, realize this well-informed brothers and sisters that iniquity, sin, transgression, and abomination are all different in the eyes of the Lord.
And He treats them differently.
“Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
Ezekiel 28:12
Michael Expelled Him From Heaven
He wanted to be God! But there is only one God.
Consequently, the Lord expelled him from heaven. Because He is God He didn’t do it personally but through the Archangel Michael.
“… There was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,”
Revelation 12:7
“And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.”
Revelation 12:8
“… The great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
Revelation 12:9
After Michael “cast” him out of heaven, the Lord calls him Satan, the accuser, and deceiver of the Brethren.
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning[;] how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations[?]” Isaiah 14:12.

Why Are Both Jesus and Satan Referred to as the Morning Star?
They are not! Satan is one of the names of Lucifer after his fall.
Lucifer means the bright one or he that shines bright.
But Satan means the Deciever. Lucifer was not a deceiver.
Jesus is the Morning Star. But Lucier is the Son of the Morning, two different things.
Revelation 22:16
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
There is only one Morning Start and he is Jesus Christ. Similarly, there is only one Son of The Morning, and he is Lucifer.

Conclusion
Why is Lucifer Called Son of the Morning?
The Lord describes Lucifer as the Son of The Morning because of his extremely bright presence. The Lord created him for worship.
Therefore, the Bible says, “the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.” Ezekiel 28:13.
This doesn’t mean that he is a morning star. Jesus is the only Bright Morning Star.
There are not two-morning stars, but one. He’s Jesus Christ!
The Lord never called Satan, Lucifer. Neither did the Bible once call Lucifer Satan.
Lucifer was that bright sinless angel in heaven. Satan is that lackluster, sin-filled angel cast out into the earth. He is an unemployed cherub.
He is also the deceiving Serpent that was in the Garden of Eden. The one that deceived Eve and introduced sin and death to the earth.
They are not one and the same.
Finally, I have written on this topic at length in my book, “Living Soul: In The Image Of God”.
