Bithynia! “After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not” (Acts 16:7). From the above scripture, we observed that the Holy Ghost prevented Paul and his team from entering Bithynia. That means that they attempted or “they assayed to go into Bithynia” but Holy Ghost did not grant them the freedom to do so. Bithynia is a region south of the Black Sea and west of Galatia also bordering Asia. WHY DID the Holy Ghost Forbid Paul From Going to Asia? The Holy Ghost did not forbid Paul from going to Asia but prevented him from preaching the gospel in Asia. Paul and his team were already in Asia or traveling through Asia but there are not permitted by the Holy Spirit to preach in the region. “Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,” (Acts 16:6). Note that they had to pass by Mysia and came down to Troas which is the end of the Asian region before they got permission from the Holy Ghost to preach in Macedonia. “And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas,” (Acts 16:8). The Holy Ghost forbid Paul from preaching in Asia because it was not the right time. Conclusion Why does the Holy Ghost forbid us from doing things and going places? Being forbidden by the Holy Spirit is not equivalent to being denied by the Holy Spirit. On this second missionary journey, Paul was forbidden from preaching the gospel to the Asians. However, on his subsequent visits to the region, he will preach the gospel to them. How does the Holy Ghost forbid us from doing things are going places? He achieved this by creating unrest in our spirits. This is when we are torn between two opinions. Should I do this or should I do that? Should I go or should I stay? One of the best way best ways to satisfy this is by being patient. Do nothing! wait for freedom from the Holy Ghost!
