Do All Men Possess Faith in God?
Seeing that in a previous Bible Study, I had dealt with the nature and the definition of faith; therefore, today I shall investigate if everyone has faith in God.
Does everyone have faith? Does everyone have faith in God? These statements are speaking about two different things.
Everyone has faith because everyone believes in something, or in many things. But does everyone believe in the Lord God?
Nevertheless, when I speak of having faith here, I mean having faith in God.
Does everyone believe in Jesus Christ and that he is the only begotten Son of God? No!
This was what Apostle Paul was explaining in one of his letters to the Church of Thessalonica.
He says,
“And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.”
2 Thessalonians 3:2
Who Receives From God?
He wasn’t referring to the Believers, but the “unreasonable and wicked men” that he wanted deliverance from. They were the ones without faith (2 Thessalonians 3:2).
Every Believer in Jesus Christ has faith in God. That’s how we received salvation and please the Lord God. That’s how we live triumphant lives, by faith.
“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according to as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”
Romans 12:3
Again, who was Apostle Paul addressing in the quotation immediately above? Was he speaking to every person on earth or to the members of the Roman Church of Christ?
Is The Measure of Faith For Unbelievers Too?
Therefore, recall how Apostle Paul begins his letter to them, “To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 1:7).
He was writing to Believers. They were Christians.
As a result, when he writes that “God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith” he was talking about all Born Again Believers in Rome, not all the people in Italy (Romans 12:3).
How do I know that? First, all of Paul’s epistles are to the Believers. Second, he started out by saying “to every man that is among you”.
Paul was writing to all the Roman-Christian brethren (Romans 12:3).
He wasn’t making a general statement and he wasn’t speaking to or about unsaved people. He was addressing the Church.
Therefore, every born-again Believer has a “measure of faith” from God. But this is not true of the world. God gives them nothing because they don’t trust in Him (Romans 12:3).
How could I say that? Because the Bible says the same thing!
Without faith, or faith in God, we cannot please Him.
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Hebrews 11:6
Where Does Faith in God Come From?
Where do Christians get their faith from? The Source!
We get our measure of faith from the Word of God. If we never listen to the Word of God then we have no faith in Him.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17
We weren’t born with it but we develop and increase it by hearing, accepting, and believing the true word of God.
That’s one of the reasons Jesus went to hell. He visited it to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom so that everyone who died since Adam could hear the preaching of the gospel and believe in him.
“For this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.”
1 Peter 4:6
Since that time the dead doesn’t have a second chance at salvation. Jesus is the only person who preached to everyone.
He alone ministered to both the “quick and the dead” or the “living and the dead”.
In closing, if you desire a deeper understanding of this read my first book, “Living Soul: In The Image of God”.
