Today, I desire to look at, exactly what is the diversities of tongues, the gift of the Holy Ghost?
Many people have problems with this gift. What really is it? What does the Bible say about it?

What Does The Bible Say About Diverse Tongues?
Stick with me as I search the scriptures to reveal what the Word says about this gift.
As a result, I’m going to read a number of scriptures from the Bible. The first one is going to be from (Genesis 10:20).
“These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues in their countries and in their nations” (Genesis 10:20).
From this scripture, we will realize that tongues, in this context of a spiritual gift, is not a verb but a noun.
Next, let’s go to (Isaiah 66:18) this is the Lord speaking,
“For I know their works and their thoughts, it shall come that I will gather all nations and tongues and they shall come and see my glory” (Isaiah 66:18).
So, from these scriptures, we deduce that tongues mean the same thing as nations or people.
Diversities of Tongues in Scripture
Let’s use another reference from the Bible.
I want to go to (1 Corinthians 14:21) and I always use the King James Version of the Bible. This is my preference, I use no other version and no other version is comparable, in my opinion.
So (1 Corinthians 14:21) makes this gift very plain, it says, “With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto these people” (1 Corinthians 14:21).
This is the Lord speaking here to the Jewish people. He is saying, with men of other nations, other nationalities I will speak to the Jewish people.
So here we see that tongues is also synonymous with nations or people as per the preceding scriptures that demonstrate the very same thing.
Next, I’m going to read from Revelation seven verse nine and this scripture says,
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands” (Revelation 7:9) and you should also see (Revelation 17:15).
These scriptures make it very plain that tongues is not a verb but a noun and it refers to people, nations, and nationalities.
Conclusion
What is the gift of diverse tongues?
So let’s conclude this. Since the word tongues refers to people and nations and nationalities in the context of spiritual gifts, diverse kinds of tongues mean diverse kinds of languages.
It wouldn’t mean diverse kinds of people because there’s no such thing. People are people and in context to the Lord God, He sees us all as the same, we’re all people before Him.
So, this gift of the Holy Ghost, diverse kinds of tongues, is not the same as speaking with tongues.
Recall that this is a gift of the Holy Ghost. So, in order, to manifest this spiritual gift, first, we have to receive the Holy Ghost, then we can manifest any of the spiritual gifts of the Holy Ghost.
I repeat, we must receive the Holy Ghost first and then we could manifest any of these gifts.
Who Manifests Diversities of Tongues?
Additionally, remember from my previous Bible study that I’ve been teaching that these gifts are not for the pews. They are not for everybody in the congregation.
These gifts are for the leaders, it’s part of the Lord’s hierarchy that he has placed in His Church.
Finally, speaking in tongues is so different from the gifts of tongues. Many people think that when you speak in tongues you could speak different languages.
They say, while you’re speaking in tongues, you are utilizing the gift of tongues or that’s the diversities of tongues. It is not! It has nothing to do with speaking in tongues, let’s get that straight.
