One Feature is Necessary for Authority in Jesus
As Believers in Jesus Christ who have been born again according to the doctrine of Jesus Christ, like Apostle Peter, we possess authority in Jesus Christ through his great name.
“And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda,” (Acts 9:32). Apostle Peter, like Apostle Paul, makes regular circuits to the churches that they had established. These subsequent visits were to address and correct prevailing problems in these assemblies and or to strengthen them. “And [in Lydda Peter] found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy,”(Acts 9:33).This is the only Way to Possess Authority in Jesus
One of the features that are always present in healings by Jesus Christ or by his apostles is the fact that the person requiring it has been ill for an extended time. Everyone knew of it. Therefore, we read that this man was sick for eight years.
There are no doubts at all that any of these persons need healing. “And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately,” (Acts 9:34). As a result, many of the sick persons who Jesus healed others requested healing of him for them. This request is either implicit or explicit. For example, some of the people at Apostle Peter’s house requested healing of Jesus for Peter’s sick mother-in-law.They tell Him of Her
Therefore, “… they tell him of her“, then he healed her (Mark 1:30) However, read Apostle Luke’s account of this incident to experience a superior appreciation of the point I’m making (Luke 4:38). Luke, writes that the people ask Jesus to heal her. Similarly, recall the incident with the Centurian who seek-out Jesus to heal his helper. He came worshipping Jesus and then requesting healing for his servant. Therefore, he addresses Jesus as Lord. He says, “… Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented,” (Matthew 8:6).What is the Source of Your Authority as a Christian?
Then Jesus volunteered to heal him, (Matthew 8:7). Another important quality, healing is always done in the authority of the name, Jesus Christ. Jesus is our healer. And because the Lord sends Apostle Peter he has the authority to utilize his name in speaking healing to Aeneas. Note the reaction of “all” the people living in that region.Do you Possess Authority in Jesus Christ?
“And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord,” (Acts 9:35).
The residents recognized the power that Apostle Peter demonstrated that it was from heaven. His authority in Jesus came from God; therefore, they turned to the Lord. Whom do you represent? Your authority emanates from the name of the person you come proclaiming. And guess what? You can’t fake it! Devils know who you represent. And if you possess no authority from the person whose name you come declaring that such a one sent you, they will not obey you. “And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?” (Acts 19:15).Who do You Represent?
Therefore, ensure that you are a proper representative of Jesus Christ. Have you taken on his name via water baptism?
Have you obeyed his Words concerning your born again procedure? In short, do you scripturally represent Jesus Christ? Ensure that you are a bona fide agent of heaven before you pronounce healing on others, because you may not possess the proper authority to do so. Our authority in Jesus Christ comes not because of what we speak or what we wear, but because we have obeyed him.
