What Did Apostle Paul Suffer Because of the Name of Jesus?
Many of the apostles of Christ suffered great things because of the name of Jesus Christ. However, below, I shall explore a few of Paul’s encounters.
The things Paul suffered, he experienced not because of himself but because of the name of Jesus. But he was unaware of the reason this was happening to him!
Speaking of Paul, the Lord revealed:
“For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”
Acts 9:16
Don’t expect an easy life because you are a Believer in Jesus Christ. Because of his name, you too will suffer great things.
This will happen not because of your belief in it, but for the sake of it.
“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”
Matthew 10:22
Were Disciples Beaten Because of the Designation of Jesus?
The Lord God gave His only begotten Son the name, Jesus. Since that time hell has come against anyone who believes in it.
The first-century disciples experienced untold hardship and extreme wickedness because they embraced it. What have you encountered because of the name, Jesus Christ?
So, the Jews beat Apostle Paul and many more of Jesus’ disciples because of his name.
“Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul.”
Acts 21:32
The Jews beat Paul not once or twice. He suffered frequent physical punishment because of the name of Jesus. Yet, he preached and taught in no other name but Christ’s.
Apostle Paul Endured this Because of the Name
Listen as Paul tells his story:
“Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep.”
2 Corinthians 11:25
So, we see that suffering for the moniker of Jesus was a lifestyle for Apostle Paul. He endured hardship for it frequently.
“In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren.”
2 Corinthians 11:26
The Jews lied on him. They tried to frame him. But they stoned him because of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 14:19).
“In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.”
2 Corinthians 11:27
Therefore, they beat, stoned, arrested, and imprisoned Apostle Paul because of his name.
Has Anyone Ever Ridiculed You Because of the Name of Jesus?
“But Paul said unto them, [t]hey have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? [N]ay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.”
Acts 16:37
Have the authorities expelled you from any city because of his name? What have you suffered for that great name?
Besides physical suffering, many disciples of Jesus Christ suffered psychologically for his handle.
Has anyone ever ridiculed you because of the application of Jesus? Paul experienced ridicule. They made fun of him because of it.
Festus, the king, declared Paul mad because of Jesus’ name (Acts 26:24).
Once You Have Taken On The Name of Jesus This Will Happen!
The Lord Jesus Christ told his disciples that they would suffer great things for his name’s sake. They suffered. And you will suffer too once you have taken on this unique designation the Son of God.
Therefore, somehow, somewhere, because you embrace this heavenly designation hell is coming against you. Its motive is simple. Put enough pressure on you for you to relinquish the name of Jesus!
You may not experience beating, stoning, shipwreck, imprisonment, torture, or death because of the name of the Son of God.
However, the Huffington Post describes the death of a pastor who died because of Jesus’ name.
Conclusion
What Have You Suffered Because Of It?
But some of you have endured ridicule and alienation. At work, in school, and for some, even at home, they suffer for Christ’s sake.
But be strong. You are a victor because Christ is victorious and he promised you victory too. But you must endure to the end. And he has your reward if you endure to the end.
Stand! Continue to teach, preach, talk, sing, and do all in the wonderful name of Jesus. He promised never to leave you. And he will give you strength to endure.
Hold on to your faith in God through Jesus. Hold to the end. Only then will you receive your reward of eternal life.
“For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end.”
Hebrews 3:14
